Israel Bars 11 British MPs and Lawyer Over UK Sanctions
Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially banned 11 British Members of Parliament and lawyer Fahad Ansari from entering the country. This action is a direct response to sanctions recently imposed by the United Kingdom against Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria. The Times of Israel reported on the development.
Among those barred are prominent figures from the Labour Party, including Jeremy Corbyn, Zara Sultana, Naz Shah, Diane Abbott, John McDonnell, and Richard Burgon. The Green Party is represented by Hannah Spencer, Carla Denyer, Sian Berry, Ellie Chowns, and Adrian Ramsay.
Fahad Ansari, the lawyer, was previously involved in representing the political wing of Hamas in attempts to have the organization removed from terror watchlists. Ansari commented on the ban via social media platform X, stating he is not a British subject or parliamentarian but considers the prohibition a "badge of honor."
While the Israeli Foreign Ministry did not provide specific reasons for each individual's ban, a ministry representative stated that entry would be denied to anyone involved in anti-Semitic or anti-Israel activities, or those who publicly deny Israel's existence. The ministry emphasized that this measure is a reciprocal response to the UK's sanctions.
