Bodø/Glimt Nominated for Club of the Year, Israeli Goalie Highlighted
The list of 30 nominees for the Ballon d'Or, the world's top player award, was released on Tuesday. Alongside individual honors, the Ballon d'Or committee also announced the five clubs nominated for Club of the Year, featuring a surprising contender: Norway's Bodø/Glimt.
The Norwegian champions had a historic debut campaign in the Champions League, where they notably defeated Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, eliminated Inter Milan, and were only bested by Sporting Lisbon in the quarterfinals. A key figure in their success is Israeli-born goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, who previously played for Bnei Yehuda and Hapoel Kfar Saba. Haikin has been the starting goalkeeper for Bodø/Glimt since 2023 and was reportedly in advanced discussions for naturalization into the Norwegian national team.
Other clubs nominated for Club of the Year include European champions Paris Saint-Germain, English champions Arsenal, German champions Bayern Munich who reached the Champions League semifinals, and Brazilian champions Flamengo, who won both the Brazilian league and the Copa Libertadores.
