Hamas Threatens Israel Over Counter-Terror Operation in Jerusalem
Hamas has issued an official warning to Israel regarding a large-scale counter-terrorism operation underway in the Shuafat and Anata areas of East Jerusalem. The operation, a joint effort by the Border Police, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and the Shin Bet security agency, has prompted strong statements from the militant group. Hamas representatives declared that there would be "consequences" to Israel's actions and asserted that Jerusalem and its refugee camps would remain Palestinian. The organization also stated that any Israeli attempts to establish control or "Judaize" the territory would be met with resistance from local residents. While issuing warnings about "consequences," Hamas did not directly threaten military intervention on its part. The Israeli operation is codenamed "Operation "United Fist"" and is being led by Brigadier General Eran Levy, commander of the Jerusalem district, and Colonel Anan Fares, commander of the Binyamin brigade.
