Israel's Foreign Minister Saar Slams UK Sanctions on Settlements
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar strongly criticized Britain's decision to impose sanctions on Israeli settlements, calling the move politically motivated and timed to coincide with the eve of the Jewish New Year.
Saar stated that the decision by the UK Labour government was particularly absurd given that over a century ago, the Balfour Declaration officially recognized the Jewish people's historical right to establish their homeland in the Land of Israel, including in Judea and Samaria. He emphasized that this right was included in the British Mandate for Palestine.
"They chose to do this on the eve of the Jewish New Year for internal political reasons," Saar said, adding that the decision constitutes interference in the election system of a sovereign state.
