Maccabi Ashdod Coach Dan Katzir Embraces New Challenge in Top League

After a six-season absence, Maccabi Ashdod is returning to the Israeli Premier League, with Dan Katzir set to lead the team as head coach. This marks Katzir's first coaching experience in the top tier of Israeli basketball. In an interview with Sport Channel, Katzir shared his initial thoughts on the team's preparation, noting that they have been training together for about a week, focusing on professional and personal acclimatization.

Katzir acknowledged the significant challenge ahead, emphasizing the limited time before the official season begins next week. He described the current period as crucial for preparation games, allowing the team to make necessary adjustments, integrate further, and prepare for immediate competition. "We understand the magnitude of the challenge before us," Katzir stated.

Approaching his 34th birthday in three days, Katzir addressed his age, stating, "There have been precedents. I don't focus on my age or the age of others. I have a team, a group of people here that I need to lead to victories. There's nothing else, no detours, we need to win." He stressed the team's hard work and the importance of fan support.

Regarding aspirations, Katzir aims for the team to train at its best, play every game with maximum intensity, and rally the city and its fans. He expressed satisfaction with the squad's composition, which includes players at various stages of their careers, from those nearing retirement to emerging talents and peak performers, assembled from diverse global backgrounds to create human variety. "We wanted this human diversity, and we are the most satisfied in the world," he said.
