News 12 commentator Amit Segal said police and media coverage of ultra-Orthodox protesters this morning on Route 4 reflected a discriminatory double standard. He stressed that blocking roads is a criminal offense, but argued that enforcement cannot be carried out selectively or out of contempt.
Segal said the Jerusalem Faction is “a fanatical, extremist cult” and described road blockages as “a thuggish criminal act” that has somehow become normalized in Israel. Even so, he said, police violence against one offender and not another amounts to improper selective enforcement.
He added that “we all know what would have happened here if such violence had been directed at the Kaplan blockers,” referring to anti-government demonstrators. Segal also attacked the media and political system, saying the lack of coverage of the disparity was “no less disgusting” than the different reactions to stun grenades.
He compared praise that Minister Itamar Ben Gvir received for someone who threw a stun grenade in Ayalon with the shock expressed this morning over the throwing of stun grenades. Segal concluded by calling it “a disgusting discrimination in enforcement, coverage and reactions.”
