IDF Chief of Staff Surprises Lone Soldier with Reunion
The Chief of Staff, Aviv Kochavi, surprised a lone soldier from an intelligence-gathering battalion during a holiday toast for solitary soldiers. The soldier, Sergeant M, had not seen his father in two years. His father traveled from Russia specifically for the event, marking their first meeting since Sergeant M immigrated to Israel following the October 7th attacks.
Sergeant M made aliyah as part of the "Tzabar Nucleus" program, underwent a conversion process, and became a combat soldier to contribute to Israel. His father remained in Russia until this reunion.
At the end of the toast, Kochavi addressed the solitary soldiers, expressing his awe and pride in them. He stated, "Every time I meet our soldiers, I am filled with wonder and pride, and I want to tell you that I am proud of you. You are an example and inspiration to all the people of Israel. You prove that it is possible to overcome and not surrender to difficulties."
