Netanyahu Considers Reserving Spot for Former MK Yoni Shtabbon

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly considering reserving a spot on the Likud party's Knesset list for former Member of Knesset Yoni Shtabbon. The possibility of Shtabbon's return to the political arena was raised during internal consultations, according to a report by Walla. However, it remains uncertain whether his candidacy has progressed to a final decision.

Shtabbon has prior parliamentary experience, having served as a Member of Knesset in the 19th Knesset. During his tenure, he held positions such as Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. He also has a significant military background, holding the rank of Colonel (reserves) and receiving the Chief of Staff's citation for his actions during the Second Lebanon War's Battle of Bint Jbeil.

The report indicates that while Shtabbon's name has been discussed, there is no certainty that his inclusion on the list has been finalized. His candidacy is currently considered under review rather than a definitive decision.

This consideration comes shortly after Likud announced the reservation of a prominent spot for Elisha Magen, a reservist fighter and co-founder of the Avigail settlement in the Hebron Hills, who will be placed at number 11 on the list for the 26th Knesset. Magen, son of Rabbi Yaakov Magen, became a symbol of resilience during Operation Iron Swords after being severely wounded by an explosive device in Gaza, losing both legs and witnessing the deaths of four comrades.
