President Donald Trump said on Wednesday evening that he gave Israel a copy of the understanding on the Iran nuclear agreement. Speaking about the issue at the G7, Trump also addressed his relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and praised him as a very good person and a strong partner.
Trump said, "The people around Netanyahu are good people. He gets excited a little sometimes, but he happens to be a very good man. We had amazing cooperation, he was an amazing prime minister." He added that they have had some disagreements over Lebanon, and told Netanyahu, "You can be a little softer, friend. You do not need to destroy a building every time someone says something."
He then recalled Netanyahu's efforts to stop the nuclear deal under Barack Obama, saying Netanyahu warned it could be "the end of Israel" and tried to get help from Congress but got no result. According to Trump, Obama ignored him and the deal that followed was "terrible" and "horrible for Israel."
Trump said the agreement remained in place until he came into office and ended the deal, saying he had very little time left when he did so.
