UK Prime Minister Discusses Middle East Stability with Emir of Qatar

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham spoke with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, via telephone to discuss recent Middle East developments and international efforts to de-escalate regional tensions. According to a statement from the British Prime Minister's office, a significant portion of their conversation focused on the security and political situation in the Middle East, including events in Israel, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank.

Burnham emphasized that his government is prioritizing efforts to reduce escalation and support its regional partners, aiming to gradually restore stability and security. He stated that current events underscore the importance of continued coordination between London and influential regional countries, including Qatar. The British Prime Minister also addressed Israeli policy in the West Bank, reiterating that the UK government considers the expansion of settlements, which it deems illegal, unacceptable.

Downing Street indicated that the UK is expected to announce comprehensive measures in response to these developments. Beyond political and security issues, the leaders also discussed bilateral relations between the UK and Qatar. Burnham highlighted how the ongoing Middle East crisis demonstrates the significance of the ties between the two nations and the need to deepen them further.

Discussions included security cooperation between London and Doha, which Burnham described as deep and unique, as well as opportunities to expand collaboration in trade, investment, and clean energy.
