Argentine President Milei Backs Israeli Minister's Call on Falklands Sovereignty

Argentine President Javier Milei shared a post on his X account by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to recognize Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and impose sanctions on Great Britain. Ben-Gvir wrote in Spanish that "it is time for the State of Israel to publicly recognize that the Falkland Islands are occupied Argentine territory." He also accused Britain of oil extraction in the islands' vicinity and called on Netanyahu to acknowledge Argentine sovereignty over the archipelago and sanction London "as long as the occupation continues."

Ben-Gvir's statement emerged amid reports that the British government is preparing additional economic measures against Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria, potentially including a trade ban and sanctions against construction companies. The dispute over sovereignty of the Falkland Islands has persisted between Argentina and Great Britain for decades.

Milei has recently intensified Argentine claims to the archipelago and announced stricter sanctions against companies involved in oil extraction near the islands. London has stated that its position on the sovereignty of the Falklands remains unchanged.
