Argentine President Milei Retweets Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir's Call for Sanctions on UK

Argentine President Javier Milei shared a post on his X account by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, which urged Israel to recognize Argentina's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and impose sanctions on the United Kingdom. Ben-Gvir wrote in Spanish that it was time for Israel to publicly acknowledge that the Falklands are occupied Argentine territory, "violently stolen" by the British, who he accused of conducting oil drilling and stealing money from the Argentine people.

Ben-Gvir called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to recognize Argentina's sovereignty over the islands and to sanction Great Britain for as long as the "occupation" continues. This statement from Ben-Gvir followed reports in British media indicating that the UK was expected to announce a sharp policy change regarding Israel, including a ban on trade in certain goods and services originating from Judea and Samaria settlements.

In response to the potential British sanctions, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also reacted, calling for a preemptive measure. Smotrich stated, "We will not be trampled by an antisemitic government, in a country conquered by radical Islam, trying to save itself from economic and social collapse by attacking Jews and the State of Israel. The British Mandate in the Land of Israel has ended." Smotrich further called for the British ambassador to be expelled that same evening.
