Elad Municipality Partners with Shabbat Guard for New Housing Projects
The Elad Municipality has requested that the "Shabbat Guard" organization continue its professional and halachic (Jewish law) oversight of new housing projects nearing completion in the city. This initiative aims to ensure that all building systems are compliant with Shabbat observance regulations before residents move in.
The partnership, which began during the initial construction phases, involves close coordination between developers and the Shabbat Guard. The organization has been inspecting various systems, including water pumps, intercoms, and infrastructure for "kosher" electricity, throughout the construction process. This proactive approach addresses potential halachic issues during the planning and execution stages, rather than attempting to fix them after occupancy.
During a recent meeting, municipal officials urged the Shabbat Guard to finalize their inspections and confirm that the systems meet the required standards. The municipality has stipulated that approval from the Shabbat Guard will be a prerequisite for receiving "Form 4," a certificate of occupancy, for new projects. This ensures that halachic considerations are integrated into building infrastructure prior to residents taking possession of their homes.
Elad Mayor Rabbi Yehuda Botbol emphasized the importance of this continued oversight for the benefit of the residents. Rabbi Eliyahu Bayfous, Chairman of the Shabbat Guard, stated that close supervision from the outset is the most effective way to manage technologically advanced systems in construction, allowing for timely resolution of halachic questions. Rabbi Ariel Cohen, CEO of the Shabbat Guard, added that this ongoing collaboration with developers, similar to projects nationwide, ensures that Shabbat observance is built into the infrastructure from the start.
