Israel Approves Land for Electricity Storage Facility Serving Sabbath Observant Community in Lod

Israel's Interior Ministry Director-General Israel Ozen approved the allocation of land for an electricity storage facility in the Ganei Ayalon neighborhood of Lod. This initiative, led by Knesset Member Yaakov Asher and in cooperation with Lod Mayor Yair Revivo, aims to provide electricity to residents on Shabbat and Jewish holidays by storing power during weekdays. The facility will reduce reliance on fuel-powered generators, which are costly, noisy, and polluting, and will avoid the need for additional overhead power lines.

The project represents a significant shift in electricity supply models for Sabbath-observant communities and is part of a broader plan promoted by Asher to establish green, silent, and emission-free electricity storage facilities in ultra-Orthodox population centers across Israel. Asher described the approval as a major step toward making "kosher electricity" available at regular consumption rates and announced plans for similar projects in other Haredi areas.

Asher also expressed gratitude to Mayor Revivo for his support throughout the process, including land allocation and expediting municipal procedures to benefit Sabbath-observant residents. This facility is the first in a series intended to enhance energy solutions tailored to the needs of religious communities in Israel.
