Israel's Defense Minister Prepares for 'Comprehensive War' in West Bank
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Monday that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have instructed the military to prepare for a "comprehensive war" against the Palestinian Authority. This directive is contingent on the Palestinian Authority's security forces launching an attack similar to the October 7th Hamas assault, or if intelligence indicates plans for such an attack.
Katz stated that in such a scenario, the Israeli military's operation would target senior Palestinian Authority officials, its security forces, and the infrastructure of armed factions throughout the West Bank, according to a Bloomberg News report. He further elaborated that residents would be evacuated from cities and villages used to launch attacks, militants would be killed, and infrastructure destroyed.
The defense minister added that Israeli forces would remain in areas from which residents have been evacuated, drawing a parallel to operations in Gaza and Lebanon. This declaration signals a significant escalation in rhetoric and potential military planning concerning the West Bank.
