Arab Israeli Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Security Offenses
The Central Court in Haifa has sentenced Bassaal Abahra, a young man from Arraba al-Batuf, to 12 years in prison for security-related offenses. The ruling was delivered on Monday, following his conviction in June 2026. The presiding judge barred entry to the courtroom during the sentencing, while dozens of activists gathered outside in solidarity with Abahra's family.
Abahra was arrested in August 2024 when Israeli police special forces and the Shin Bet security agency raided his home. He was taken for interrogation, and in September 2024, the Israeli prosecution filed charges against him and two minors. The indictment included serious security charges such as possessing weapons for terrorist purposes, forming or establishing an organization, possessing a weapon with intent to kill, and preparing to carry out terrorist acts.
The prosecution had sought a sentence exceeding 25 years, but the court ultimately imposed a 12-year term, concluding a legal process that spanned nearly two years since his apprehension.
