Singer Shiyeh Assaf Releases Emotional 'Ana Hashem' Medley
Singer Shiyeh Assaf has released a new musical project titled 'Ana Hashem' (Answer Us), coinciding with the Selichot (penitential prayers) season. The medley connects ancient melodies with contemporary songs, all based on the plea 'Ana Hashem'. Assaf explained that the project was born from a desire to present the best songs on this theme in an innovative package, aiming to resonate with a wide audience.
The 'Ana Hashem' medley begins with a melody by Pinchas Bichler, originally performed by Moti Wiesel, and transitions to the well-known tune by Shraga Ginsburg. It then features a piece by Cantor Moshe Koussevitzky, representing ancient cantorial traditions, followed by a more recent, upbeat song by Dudi Kalish. The project concludes with a rendition by Moti Weiss, creating a musical journey that bridges the past and present.
Yidel Alter produced and arranged the medley, also contributing to the concept and vocal production. He worked closely with Assaf to create a rich soundscape that conveys the spiritual message. The mixing was handled by Moishe Kahana, with guitars by Noam Burg from Hargol, adding technical depth to the production.
Assaf stated that the medley aims to capture the essence of the Selichot period, where individuals seek a deeper connection with God. He described the feeling as 'Our heart is awake and desires good,' summarizing the core message of both the music and the season.
