C14 Launches Mass Recitation Project for Psalms Ahead of High Holidays

Ahead of the High Holidays and the Day of Judgment, the organization C14 has initiated a special project inviting the public to collectively recite Psalms. The initiative, titled "Psalms for a Good Year," aims to unite Israelis in prayer for a sweet and blessed new year.

Reciting Psalms holds significant traditional importance in Judaism, especially during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Many communities traditionally increase their recitation of Psalms during the two days of the holiday, believed to be when God judges the world and decrees the fate for the coming year. Some observe the custom of completing the entire Book of Psalms twice during Rosh Hashanah, totaling 300 chapters, a number that corresponds to the Hebrew word for atonement, "Kapparah."

Prominent rabbis and religious leaders have also historically dedicated their free time during the holidays to prayer and reciting Psalms. The C14 project allows participants to choose their level of involvement, from taking on individual chapters to reciting one of the five sections of Psalms or the entire book.

Once a chapter is selected, it is marked as taken and cannot be chosen again until the entire cycle is completed. Upon the full completion of the Book of Psalms, the cycle resets, allowing for a new round of collective recitation. The organization emphasizes that even a single chapter contributes to the completion of the whole book, encouraging thousands to join in prayer for a good year and positive tidings.
