Senator John Fetterman Criticized for Neglecting Duties Amid Strong Pro-Israel Stance

A new report from The Wall Street Journal has revealed significant criticism leveled against Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania regarding his legislative duties and public engagement. The report, based on accounts from former staffers, suggests Fetterman has shown "very little interest" in his work as a lawmaker, instead focusing on cultivating relationships with conservative influencers and strongly advocating for Israel.

According to the report, Fetterman has largely withdrawn from public life in Pennsylvania, rarely holding public events or meeting with constituents. Instead, he has prioritized his support for Israel, particularly within the Democratic Party where anti-Israel sentiment has been growing. This focus has reportedly led to him neglecting his legislative responsibilities and Senate appearances.

Further complicating matters, a new anonymous X (formerly Twitter) account, allegedly run by former Fetterman staffers, has threatened to release further information about the senator's conduct, with a first post scheduled for September 14th. This follows reports of Fetterman expressing frustration over mandatory meetings and events, including attending the funeral of fallen police officers.

Fetterman's commitment to Israel has been a defining aspect of his recent political activity. He reportedly told senior staff last summer that he wanted to introduce a resolution requiring senators to state whether the war in Gaza constituted genocide. In a separate instance, he agreed to write an opinion piece supporting Israel, based on points provided by the Israeli embassy, though his staff reportedly did not inform him of this offer.

In May, Fetterman publicly stated he would leave the Democratic Party if it became anti-Israel, highlighting his deep commitment to the country. He has also reportedly expressed frustration with party leadership, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. In response to the allegations, Fetterman dismissed them as "lies, half-truths, insinuations, smears, and anonymity" from "disgruntled former staffers" aimed at damaging his reputation, asserting his pride in continuing to serve Pennsylvania.
