Orel Dgani Claims Injury-Related Trauma Affects Sleep and Training

Sport5
Translated & summarized from Sport5 by baba
The story · English

Orel Dgani, a veteran defender for Hapoel Petah Tikva and a former Israeli national team player, has filed a claim with the National Insurance Institute, asserting that a past injury is causing him to avoid physical contact. The claim, revealed by Ran Boker on "Yatzi Ha'itonut - Rishon Be'ktarot," details Dgani's struggles.

"I avoid many things in training related to contact," Dgani stated in his claim. "At night, I don't sleep well, often waking up from nightmares where I dream the coach is yelling at me for not engaging in tackles and contact. I have flashbacks when I remember."

Dgani, 37, is one of the most experienced and respected defenders in the Israeli Premier League. He began his youth career at Maccabi Netanya and had significant stints with Maccabi Haifa, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Beitar Jerusalem. This past summer, he signed for another season with Hapoel Petah Tikva, marking his 19th season in the top flight.

Throughout his career, Dgani has won two State Cups, with Beitar Jerusalem in 2023 and Maccabi Haifa in 2016. He also earned 21 caps for the Israeli national team.
