Lawyer Arrested at Prison Suspected of Smuggling Drugs
A lawyer was arrested on Sunday at the Eshel Prison in southern Israel on suspicion of involvement in smuggling a substance believed to be drugs into the facility. The arrest occurred during a prisoner visit.
According to the Israel Prison Service (IPS), the lawyer was apprehended during a joint operation by the IPS Central Unit and detectives from the Southern District. Suspicion arose regarding her involvement in allegedly bringing the prohibited substance into the prison.
The incident took place at Eshel Prison while the lawyer was visiting an inmate. The IPS has not released further details about the suspect's identity, the inmate she visited, or the type and quantity of the substance seized. Following her arrest, the lawyer was transferred for further investigation by the Israel Police.
At this stage, the matter is only a suspicion, and it has not yet been reported whether she will face a remand extension hearing or if other suspects are involved. The IPS stated that this operation is part of their ongoing efforts to combat attempts to introduce prohibited materials into correctional facilities and vowed to continue acting against such attempts.
