Former prime minister and Yesh Atid leader Naftali Bennett announced on Wednesday that his office is setting up a special advisory committee on artificial intelligence. The group is meant to draft long-term national policy for Israel and help strengthen the country’s technological edge.
According to Bennett’s office, the committee will bring together leading experts from academia, industry, the security establishment and the public sector. Its main task will be to produce policy recommendations for the government on innovation, education and regulation, with the goal of advancing advanced technologies for the Israeli economy and the public.
Bennett’s team said the panel will examine in depth the opportunities and challenges posed by the AI revolution for Israel’s economy, society and security. The initiative is intended to reinforce Israel’s relative advantage in the field, which they say is not currently being fully realized, and to position the country as a regional and global leader in technological superiority.
The members named for the committee include Stanford computer science professor emeritus Yoav Shoham; Lemonade co-founder and CEO Daniel Schreiber; Tel Aviv University AI and data science center founder and Run:ai co-founder Meir Feder; NFX co-founder and venture capitalist Gigi Levy-Weiss; OG Venture Partners partner Ziv Kopf; Enso founder and CEO Mickey Haslavsky; Nexar founder and chairman Eran Shir; Lendbuzz co-founder Dan Riviv; former Payoneer president and senior executive Keren Levy; Qubit IL CEO Tami Mazal Shachar; and Dr. Lital Helman, a senior lecturer at Ono Academic College and an expert in intellectual property, law, technology and AI regulation.
