Hasidic Rebbes Lead Selichot Prayers Amidst High Holy Days Preparations

Across Israel and in diaspora communities, Hasidic leaders led the first Selichot (penitential prayers) services as the Jewish High Holy Days approach. The Vizhnitz Rebbe held a reception for elder Hasidim in Bnei Brak before returning to his lodging in Moshav Ora, while prayers continue for his complete recovery. The Skulener Rebbe of Lakewood led Selichot, donning a prayer shawl inherited from his father, and afterward, congregants received blessings for the new year. In Meron, Rabbi Elimelech Biderman led a fervent Selichot service starting at midnight, preceded by a spiritual offering in honor of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai.

Thousands of Satmar Hasidim gathered in Williamsburg for Selichot services led by their Rebbe, held in their recently expanded historic synagogue. In Ashdod, the "Yeshuot Moshe" synagogue was inaugurated with joyous celebrations. The Belz Rebbe's eldest grandson announced a change for the upcoming Rosh Hashanah prayers, with thousands of yeshiva students to pray separately due to space constraints, amidst prayers for the Rebbe's recovery after hospitalization.

In Netanya, thousands of Sanz Hasidim attended Selichot led by their Rebbe, who delivered an inspiring sermon and announced a resolution to abstain from email. Meanwhile, political developments within the ultra-Orthodox parties "Degel HaTorah" and "Agudat Yisrael" suggest potential replacements for veteran Knesset members. The Belz community expressed concern as the Rebbe was taken for medical tests at Hadassah Hospital, with thousands reciting Psalms for his health.

Other events included the engagement celebration of a Belz Rebbe's granddaughter in Kiryat Gat, Selichot services led by the Pinsk Karlin and Kretschneff Rebbes in Jerusalem and Rehovot respectively, and a special gathering for the Tzvehel Hasidim focused on strengthening the Jewish home against technological dangers. The Vizhnitz Rebbe's son delivered a powerful address before Selichot, discussing his father's treatments and the importance of spiritual leadership. The Alexander Rebbe visited Emanuel to encourage his followers and inaugurate a new study hall, while Rabbi Yaakov Meir Shchter, a senior Breslov leader, led Selichot and blew the shofar at his home.
