Kushner: Israel's Elections Make it 'Irrational' on Gaza Disarmament

Jared Kushner, senior advisor to former US President Donald Trump, stated Sunday that the US is only beginning to grasp the extent of military buildup in the Gaza Strip and that its disarmament "will not be easy." Speaking at a press conference in Ukraine during a joint visit with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Wittekoff, Kushner described the "militarization of Gaza" as beyond imagination. He noted that the US had been working with Hamas for over four months, during which the organization "signed an agreement where it committed to disarming."

Regarding Israel, Kushner acknowledged that political issues remain but affirmed that the US and Israel agree on the ultimate objective. He commented on Israel's ongoing elections, saying, "They have crazy elections now, and that makes them a little irrational in certain aspects." However, he emphasized the US's strong determination to continue working on the matter.

In parallel, US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman criticized British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband for remarks he made about Gaza residents. Miliband had written about harrowing accounts of blocked medicine and children dying while awaiting essential treatment, stating the UK government must act more decisively. Friedman responded by accusing the British government of "losing it" and exhibiting "antisemitism" that ignores facts.
