Syrian Journalist Threatens IDF with 'New Intifada' Amid Shifting Regional Dynamics

Syrian journalist Jamil al-Hassan, who boasts approximately 8 million social media followers and is considered a key voice echoing Damascus government messages, recently released a video threatening the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In the video, al-Hassan explicitly demanded that the IDF immediately withdraw from all territories it has "invaded" in southern Syria. He stated, "The Syrian people are tired of 14 years of war, but our blood is still hot, we have tasted all kinds of death, we fear nothing. Leave our lands in southern Syria, or a new Syrian intifada will erupt against you."

Al-Hassan emphasized that this message, at this stage, represents the Syrian people and not an official government statement. However, the video reflects a broader shift in Syria's stance. While the new Syrian regime initially avoided public confrontation with Israel, even verbally, there has been a noticeable escalation in their rhetoric recently.

This change in tone is reportedly linked to increased Turkish involvement in the region, which is believed to be providing backing and security assurances to the Damascus regime. Consequently, alongside social media threats, footage of Syrian soldiers chanting militant slogans against Israel is also circulating.
