Song Composed 25 Years Ago Released During Elul Period

A musical composition titled "Shma Koleinu" (Hear Our Voice), originally created 25 years ago by Shmuel Gelber, has been released during the month of Elul, a period of prayer and introspection in the Jewish calendar. The song's release now is seen as particularly timely, coinciding with the lead-up to Rosh Hashanah.

For this new rendition, Gelber has collaborated with his son-in-law, singer Avi Ilson. Ilson lends his distinctive voice and emotional style to the track, which features musical arrangement and production by both Shmuel Gelber and Nahorai Gelber. The lyrics are drawn from traditional Jewish sources, centering on the plea for divine hearing of prayers and heart's desires.

Gelber described the original composition as stemming from a significant period in his life, embodying the essence of older Chassidic music with its moving melody, simplicity, and depth, without the need for elaborate production. The decision to release "Shma Koleinu" during Elul imbues the 25-year-old melody with renewed relevance.
