Guy Nattiv's New Film 'The Liberation' to Premiere at Telluride Festival

Israeli Oscar-winning director Guy Nattiv's new film, 'The Liberation,' will have its world premiere at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival in Colorado from September 4-7, followed by its Canadian premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival from September 10-20. The psychological drama, co-written by Nattiv and Noa Berman-Hertzberg, is inspired by a personal family story.

The film centers on Rita, a Holocaust survivor, who becomes involved with a charismatic cult leader and leaves her family to join an isolated women's commune. The narrative intensifies when her daughters visit, attempting to bring her home, but they too become entangled in the cult's manipulative world. Rita is then forced to confront her choices between her new life and the family she left behind.

Nattiv, known for films like 'Tatami,' 'Golda,' and the Oscar-winning short 'Skin,' has assembled an impressive cast for 'The Liberation.' Carrie Coon stars as Rita, with Bella Ramsey and Odessa Young portraying her daughters. Lily James plays the manipulative cult leader, and Tracy Letts appears as Rita's husband. Jamie Ray Newman, Nattiv's wife and a co-producer, also has a role in the film. Sight Unseen, in collaboration with Oren Moverman, produced the movie, which was originally titled 'Harmony.' The announcement of the film's selection for Telluride follows the festival's tradition of keeping its film lineup secret until the day before its opening.
