IDF Completes Clearing Hezbollah Underground Complex in Southern Lebanon Amid Escalation Fears

The Israeli military has completed the clearing and secured operational control over the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, including its underground infrastructure, according to defense officials. The ongoing efforts to neutralize and destroy Hezbollah's subterranean complex there are expected to conclude within days. This operation is considered highly sensitive due to the potential for retaliation from Hezbollah and threats of intervention from Iran.

In response to the Israeli activity, Hezbollah launched two explosive drones towards Israeli forces on Saturday. The IDF responded by striking weapons depots and operational apartments belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, south of the Litani River. No Israeli soldiers were harmed, though the IDF issued an evacuation notice for residents of the village of Arab Salim.

Hezbollah has reportedly appealed to Iran for assistance in halting the Israeli operations, with Tehran threatening to intervene if they continue. Israeli defense officials are preparing for a possible escalation, though they assess the likelihood of widespread conflict as low. The IDF's decision to publicize the operation aims to create clarity and deter further escalation.

The heightened tension also coincides with operations in the Beaufort area, where elite IDF units have been active in destroying Hezbollah's underground facilities. The coming days, leading into the High Holy Days, are described as particularly sensitive across all fronts, with the IDF maintaining high alert and conducting various drills for multiple scenarios.
