Hezbollah Official Admits Organization Faces Difficult Situation

Hassan Ezzedine, a Lebanese parliament member representing Hezbollah, acknowledged on Sunday that the organization and Lebanon are in a particularly complex reality, stating it would be difficult for Hezbollah to return to its 2023 state. Speaking at a memorial ceremony in southern Lebanon, Ezzedine claimed the Lebanese government has lost credibility and legitimacy, and the country suffers from internal instability and security threats. He also asserted that Israel's attempts to influence Lebanon's internal affairs deepen the crisis.

Ezzedine also commented on Iran's regional standing, calling it a much more central player than before and stating Tehran views Lebanon as a key issue in any future regional arrangement or understanding. These remarks come amid heightened tensions in southern Lebanon.

According to Kan News, the Israeli military is preparing for sensitive days on the northern front following the completion of the clearing of two Hezbollah underground tunnels on the Ali Taher ridge. IDF forces have achieved operational control of the ridge, both above and below ground, though efforts to neutralize and destroy the tunnels are ongoing. Israel anticipates a potential Hezbollah response, possibly involving Iran in further escalation.

Hezbollah did respond overnight by launching a drone, but has not yet issued a clear official statement regarding the ridge operations. Sources close to the organization claimed its operatives withdrew in an orderly fashion and that the confrontation in the area is not over from their perspective. Israel had anticipated a Hezbollah response could include drones, anti-tank missiles, or rockets targeting IDF forces and northern Israeli communities. The central question now is whether Hezbollah will opt for a limited response or if the destruction of the tunnels will lead to expanded exchanges of fire in the region.
