Russian Defense Ministry Claims Battlefield Successes in Ukraine
The Russian Ministry of Defense released a report on September 5, 2026, detailing claimed successes of Russian forces and pro-Russian units in Ukraine. The report, which Russia refers to as a "special military operation," asserts advances by various troop groupings, including "Sever," "Zapad," "Yug," "Tsentr," "Vostok," and "Dnieper." These claims include capturing territory, inflicting significant personnel and equipment losses on Ukrainian forces, and improving tactical positions. Specific Ukrainian losses cited range from hundreds of soldiers per engagement to various types of military hardware, including an Israeli-made RADA RPS-42 counter-battery radar and U.S.-produced Paladin artillery and M777 howitzers.
The report also claims that Russian air defense systems shot down numerous drones, HIMARS rockets, and guided aerial bombs. It provides cumulative figures since the start of the "special military operation," stating that 674 aircraft, 284 helicopters, over 228,000 drones, and tens of thousands of armored vehicles and artillery pieces have been destroyed.
