Palestinian PM Discusses Gaza Reconstruction Efforts with Japanese Envoy

Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa met with Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister for Gaza Reconstruction, Takeshi Okubo, in his Ramallah office to discuss "developments in joint work and efforts exerted for relief, recovery, and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip." The meeting, attended by Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Political Affairs Dr. Omar Awadallah and Japanese Ambassador to Palestine Araike Katsuhiko, focused on ongoing cooperation.

Okubo briefed Mustafa on Japan's ongoing efforts in Gaza, which span sectors including health, education, water and sanitation, employment, social protection, explosive ordnance disposal, and municipal services. He emphasized collaboration with international partners.

Prime Minister Mustafa stressed the importance of aligning reconstruction efforts in Gaza with the Palestinian government's national priorities and recovery plans. He also expressed appreciation for Japan's continuous support for the Palestinian state and its people.

Mustafa also briefed Okubo on the difficult field developments and economic and social conditions in the West Bank, citing "occupation measures, escalating settler attacks, the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, the accumulation of the shekel currency, and obstacles." He urged Japan and the international community to pressure Israel to cease these actions and to support Palestinian efforts to hold upcoming elections.
