Ailson Tavares Leaves Beitar Jerusalem for Portuguese Second Division

Brazilian midfielder Ailson Tavares has been released by Israeli Premier League club Beitar Jerusalem and has signed with Chaves of the Portuguese second division. The transfer was completed free of charge, with Beitar Jerusalem saving on his salary and freeing up a foreign player slot. Tavares, who joined Beitar last season, made 21 appearances for the club, providing one assist. His performance last season was deemed insufficient, and he was not part of coach Almog Cohen's plans for the current season. Tavares departed for Portugal on Thursday and is expected to join his new team shortly. Beitar Jerusalem hopes to use the freed-up foreign player spot to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes. Both Beitar Jerusalem and Chaves have had difficult starts to their seasons; Beitar has yet to earn a point in the Israeli Premier League after two matches, while Chaves has secured only one point from their first four games in Portugal.
