Jerusalem Police Report Over 60% Drop in Public Disorder Incidents

Jerusalem District police reported a significant decrease of over 60% in public disorder incidents during 2026 compared to the previous year. This decline, which includes stone-throwing and Molotov cocktail attacks, saw incidents drop from 93 in 2025 to 36 in 2026. The police attributed this success to a policy focused on strengthening governance and sovereignty, enhancing personal security for all Jerusalem residents, and ensuring a safe daily life in the city. This strategy involved extensive police activity combining prevention, law enforcement, and firm action against offenses.

Simultaneously, the Jerusalem District recorded a 42% increase in the seizure of illegal weapons, with 117 weapons confiscated in 2026, up from 81 in 2025. These seizures included 42 rifles and 75 handguns, with the majority occurring within the Arab community as part of efforts to combat crime and violence. The police stated that confiscating weapons aims to reduce their availability and prevent their use in violent and criminal acts.

Furthermore, the district saw a reduction in specific types of crime, with incidents falling by over 50% from 35 in 2025 to 17 in 2026. Police emphasized that their objective extends beyond responding to incidents after they occur, focusing instead on proactively identifying and addressing risk factors to prevent violence and public safety threats. The police credited the improved statistics to the focused, professional, and decisive implementation of the policy by Jerusalem District Commander Major General Afshlom Bied.
