Israeli Citizen Charged with Espionage and Working for Foreign Intelligence

The State Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against an Israeli citizen accused of working for foreign intelligence services and acting as an agent of influence. The indictment was submitted to the Central District Court on Friday, September 4. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was detained a month ago upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport. Due to the severity of the alleged offenses, he was denied access to legal counsel for 20 days during his interrogation by police and the Shin Bet.

The court has approved the prosecution's request to extend the suspect's detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings. "Haaretz" newspaper reported these details following a request to the State Prosecutor's Office. The suspect's attorney, Inna Labudinski-Katz, stated to "Haaretz" that her client never had access to any Israeli security-related information or any other sensitive data concerning Israel. She emphasized that he visited Israel only briefly every few years and asserted that he neither caused nor could have caused harm to state security, nor was he ever asked to transfer information related to Israel.
