Southampton Manager Vows Daniel Peretz Will Remain First-Choice Goalkeeper

Following a recent loss of points against Birmingham, Southampton and goalkeeper Daniel Peretz are aiming to return to winning ways on Saturday against Lincoln City in the fifth round of the Championship. In a press conference leading up to the match, manager Tunde Ecker addressed the team's goalkeeper situation.

Ecker clarified the club's commitment to Peretz, stating, "I think I need to go back a bit regarding Daniel; he arrived in January and I personally, and we as a club, committed to him that he would be the first goalkeeper, and that remains. I think he deserves it, he had some great performances." The manager confirmed that his commitment to George Long as the second-choice goalkeeper also remains unchanged, and that the goalkeeping trio, including Jamie Jones, has been working well together.

Regarding Aaron Ramsdale, who returned from loan at Newcastle and remained with the club after the transfer window closed, Ecker explained that Ramsdale's history with the club began before his tenure. He indicated that honest conversations were held with Ramsdale from the start of preseason through the end of the transfer window, and that Ramsdale is part of the squad with the expectation to support the team. "His expectation is clear - to support the team in the best way possible," Ecker said.

Southampton began the season with two wins and a draw in their first four matches. However, due to a points deduction penalty, they are currently ranked 18th in the league. The team hopes for an important victory on Saturday to climb the table. Peretz, personally, will be looking to secure his first clean sheet in the league this season.
