Leah Malka was killed in an explosion on the Ayalon lanes, and her former partner, Chen Cohen, is suspected of the murder. According to a report aired Tuesday on the network’s main news broadcast, Cohen sent explicit threats to Malka and her family about two months before the killing, amid a dispute over custody and visitation arrangements for their shared daughter, Hiley.
The threats were sent to Malka’s mother and father, and both Malka and her father filed complaints with police. The material was passed on to investigators, but Malka was still killed. Cohen is now in custody on suspicion of murdering the 35-year-old woman.
Among the messages attributed to Cohen were, to her father, “I’ll sit 200 years for her,” “You will sleep with your eyes open,” and “I’ll make sure everyone gets hurt the way you hurt me and Hiley.” To her mother, he allegedly wrote, “I’ll show you what it means to separate a father from his daughter,” “You played too much with Hiley, I’ll play with your children,” and “Your daughter knows my abilities, so good luck.” A recording sent to Malka reportedly included insults and a threat over her identity card: “Good morning, you dirty thief. I swear Hiley Adele will die if you do not return my ID card by Sunday.”
Police said the case files were handled “without flaw,” that Cohen was questioned over threats and the file was sent to the prosecution unit with a recommendation for indictment. Police also said that in the two complaints already on file, no threats against the murdered woman herself were raised.
