Spanish Antisemitic Incidents Rose 14.5% in 2025, Report Finds

Antisemitic incidents in Spain saw a 14.5% increase in 2025, with 221 recorded cases compared to 193 in 2024, according to a new report by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE) and the Movement Against Intolerance (MCI).

Both organizations attribute this rise to the ongoing conflict following the October 7, 2023, attacks. They warn that hostility towards Jews has expanded into social, educational, and cultural spheres, as well as online. The report's authors suggest the actual number of incidents may be significantly higher, as many victims refrain from reporting due to fear of reprisal or a belief that complaints would be ineffective.

David Obadía, president of the FCJE, highlighted the tangible impact on the Jewish community, noting increased security measures at gathering places and police presence at Jewish schools since October 7. He stated that insults and discrimination have become a near-daily occurrence.

The report details various forms of antisemitism, including insults, threats, harassment, vandalism, boycotts, and hate crimes. Incidents were also noted in academic and sports settings, targeting Israeli institutions, athletes, and teams competing in Spain.

Esteban Ibarra, president of the Movement Against Intolerance, urged greater institutional response, emphasizing that antisemitism is a form of hate and discrimination, not merely an opinion or political disagreement. The FCJE and MCI are calling for increased action from public authorities, educational institutions, digital platforms, and civil society to combat the growing hostility towards Jews in Spain.
