Russia’s Defense Ministry addressed an incident in the English Channel in which a Russian warship fired warning shots at a yacht that came too close. The ministry said the frigate Admiral Grigorovich spotted a British-flagged yacht on a dangerous course that was trying to approach the vessel.
According to the statement, which was carried by Russian media, the warship made several attempts to contact the yacht. When there was no response, it fired several shots toward it.
The ministry said the warning fire worked immediately. “After the warning shots, the yacht immediately changed course and continued to move away,” the statement said. Russia added that the warship “acted in accordance with international navigation laws and took all measures to prevent the incident.”
