Democratic Republic of Congo to Move Embassy to Jerusalem

The Democratic Republic of Congo has announced its intention to relocate its embassy to Jerusalem, becoming the eleventh country to establish an embassy in Israel's capital. This decision was finalized during a working meeting between Israeli Foreign Minister G Gideon Sa'ar and his Congolese counterpart, Therese Kayikwamba N'Landu. The move follows a summit held in Jerusalem on September 1, attended by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi.

As part of the agreement, Israel will open its own embassy in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The relocation of embassies to Jerusalem is a key policy objective for Minister Sa'ar. This trend is expected to continue, with Nauru set to open its embassy in Jerusalem next week, followed by Colombia in October.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is the largest country in sub-Saharan Africa and the second-largest on the continent. It possesses significant mineral wealth crucial for industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and electric vehicles. The nation is currently a member of the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council, and has historically shown strong support for Israel in international forums, including at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
