Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s circle is examining whether to reserve a realistic, high-ranking spot on the Likud list for Haim Bibas, the mayor of Modi'in and chairman of the Federation of Local Authorities in Israel. The report was first published by reporter Shahar Glick on Kan News.
Bibas has served for years as mayor of Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut and leads the local-authorities body. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and powerful figures in municipal politics and within Likud itself.
According to the report, bringing Bibas onto the party’s national slate could be part of a strategic move by Netanyahu’s camp to strengthen its ranks, both toward the grassroots and toward local-government leadership.
