People close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are examining whether to reserve a place for Haim Bibas, chairman of the Federation of Local Authorities in Israel, and offer him a senior post in the next government. The report was aired Tuesday night by Kan News.
Likud officials believe Bibas would want the housing portfolio or another prominent ministry. The move fits Netanyahu’s broader effort to bring into Likud figures seen as state-minded, professional, and practical.
At the same time, Bibas is leading a group of Likud-affiliated municipal leaders who are working to abolish the party primaries, a step Netanyahu has also asked to advance.
