Israel Showcases Scientific Prowess to 60 Nations' Diplomats

On Thursday, September 3, 2026, Tel Aviv hosted a significant event organized by Israel's Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, led by Minister Gila Gamliel. The gathering brought together approximately 120 ambassadors and diplomatic attachés representing around 60 countries. Titled "Israeli Innovations: From the Edges of Space to the Local Ecosystem," the conference focused on fostering international partnerships in artificial intelligence, quantum technology, robotics, and space exploration.

Minister Gila Gamliel, in her opening remarks, emphasized the critical role of investing in scientific potential for national resilience. The ministry highlighted its key initiatives, including its scientific diplomacy efforts. Currently, the ministry supports 124 joint projects with 12 countries, totaling approximately 44 million shekels. New memorandums of understanding were also signed with the United States, the Czech Republic, and Azerbaijan.

Significant resources are being allocated to regional scientific development, with about 60 million shekels designated for supporting research centers across 241 municipalities, including those in northern Israel. Israel's space initiatives were a prominent discussion point, featuring plans for the 2028 launch of the ULTRASAT space telescope, the establishment of a national space research laboratory costing 60 million shekels, and the construction of a "Space City" in Mitzpe Ramon with an investment of 100 million shekels.
