An intelligence officer from Israel’s Coastal District was arrested on Monday by investigators from the Police Internal Investigations Department, or Mahash, on suspicion of accepting bribes and abusing his official position. The arrest was reported by Channel 13.
Police said the detention was the public phase of a covert investigation that had been running for some time after information surfaced indicating the officer may have been involved in integrity-related offenses. According to the report, colleagues regarded him as a professional and respected figure.
He was questioned on Monday night and then released under restrictive conditions. As part of those terms, he has been barred from all police stations until next Sunday.
