Israel to Recover Bodies of Lebanese Jewish Leaders in Exchange for Detainees
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered efforts to locate and return the bodies of Lebanese Jewish community leaders who were kidnapped and murdered by terrorist organizations in the mid-1980s. Netanyahu has been involved with this issue for decades, dating back to his tenure as Israel's ambassador to the United Nations.
Recent months have seen significant efforts by both Lebanon and Israel to find the remains, including operations on the ground. In light of this substantial activity, Israel decided to release five Lebanese civilians who were detained in areas controlled by the IDF in southern Lebanon.
Following investigations, it was determined that these individuals were civilians not affiliated with any terrorist organization and had not engaged in terrorism, making their continued detention unnecessary.
