Mother Gives Birth to Sixth Child a Year After Daughter's Fatal Accident

Miriam Danino, 39, from Karmei Katif, gave birth to her sixth child, a daughter, on Tuesday, approximately one year after her 15-year-old daughter, Emunah Yehudit, was killed in a car accident. Danino described the poignant timing of her labor, stating, "I was preparing for the memorial and felt movements in my belly." She views the birth as symbolizing "continuity and faith in life, without ignoring the difficulty and longing."

Emunah Yehudit died on August 11, 2025, when she was struck by a truck on Road 3552 near the settlement of Adura, south of Hebron. She had celebrated her 15th birthday just ten days prior. The past year has been a profound journey for the family, marked by grief and the unexpected news of a new pregnancy. Danino explained that the year was "a very empowering journey, with all the pain and loss," and that Emunah's memory continues to inspire others.

Following Emunah's death, the family discovered writings on her phone, including a "chat with God" and a testament. They also found her reflections on Israel's Memorial Day and Independence Day, where she wrote about their significance for the Jewish people. Danino likened the family's grief to "a feather pillow that was in our hand and the feathers scattered everywhere."

During the pregnancy, the family felt they were simultaneously saying goodbye to Emunah and welcoming their new daughter. "We were accompanying our Emunah from this world to the next, and in the last month, we were accompanying our baby from the next world to this one," Miriam said. She emphasized that the newborn is not a replacement for Emunah but a new individual with her own role. The family plans to tell the new daughter about her sister, sharing photos and stories of Emunah's love for her.

Danino also shared that even during pregnancy check-ups, she would place a yellow note stating, "We lost a daughter a year ago," which often brought tears. She believes acknowledging the pain allows them to move forward. Even their four-and-a-half-year-old daughter understands the family's tears are a healthy expression of missing Emunah. The family is still considering names for the new baby.
