First Suspect Arrested in Palestinian Village Violence

Israeli authorities have arrested the first suspect in connection with the violent disturbances that occurred five days prior in the Palestinian town of Qusra. The 19-year-old suspect, a resident of the Samaria region, was apprehended on Thursday while hiding at a construction site in Eli, located in the Benjamin region. The arrest was a joint operation by the Israel Police's Judea and Samaria District command and the Shin Bet security agency.

Last Saturday, Israeli forces were dispatched to Qusra after dozens of Jewish individuals arrived and began throwing stones at Palestinian residents and others. According to police reports, these individuals barricaded themselves inside a Palestinian home while residents were still present. The attackers also targeted foreign journalists, throwing stones and smashing their vehicle's windows. The group then proceeded to the nearby village of Jalud, and no arrests were made until Thursday's apprehension.

The joint police and Shin Bet investigation team is continuing efforts to gather evidence and identify all individuals involved in the severe incident. "We are using technological tools and various capabilities to bring to justice all those who participated and harmed the region's security," a statement from the authorities read.

On Wednesday, the Judea and Samaria Police reported locating and seizing a pickup truck used by the attackers in Qusra. The vehicle was found at the "Mevaser HaShalom" outpost, and during its seizure, several individuals threw stones at the officers, leading to two arrests. Police had previously stated that the Qusra attackers had been identified and that arrest operations were underway.

Palestinian reports from the day of the incident described settlers attacking a family near their unfinished home in Qusra, injuring several family members. They also reported settlers setting fires between Jalud and Qusra. Israeli forces reportedly used tear gas against young residents attempting to assist the family. The attackers, some masked and traveling in white pickup trucks, were also documented attacking an NBC news crew, injuring a Palestinian woman who was interviewed.
