Dafna Armoni Celebrates 70th Birthday Amidst Health Challenges and Career Milestones
Israeli singer Dafna Armoni is celebrating her 70th birthday, marking the occasion with multiple personal and professional milestones. She noted her birthday, the anniversary of her debut album, her daughter's impending childbirth, and her son's upcoming wedding as reasons for joy. Armoni also recently received a commendation from the Ramat Hasharon municipality for 40 years since the release of her career-launching album.
Despite these celebrations, Armoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation after a severe knee injury sustained three months prior when she slipped at home, tearing a ligament and dislocating her knee. The incident left her alone and in considerable pain, requiring her to use a clothes hanger to reach an emergency alert button. She also revealed a history of health issues, including a bowel obstruction and incarcerated hernia two years ago, which necessitated hospitalization and oxygen support.
Armoni is currently hospitalized at 'Medical Care' in Bat Yam, a facility that focuses on holistic rehabilitation of body, mind, and spirit. She emphasizes the importance of addressing the psychological impact of injury alongside the physical. Despite her condition, she continues to perform, adapting her shows to accommodate her wheelchair and maintaining an optimistic outlook, stating, "I don't let anything stop me because that's how I am, always looking for the solution and not the problem."
Financially, Armoni admits to a precarious situation, describing her current state as "survival" and highlighting the necessity of working to cover basic needs. She is launching a new lecture series, a venture she has considered for years, inspired by a spontaneous speaking engagement in Miami. The lecture will cover her life story, career highlights, and personal experiences, including her childhood in kibbutzim and abroad, her military service in a musical troupe, and her collaborations with prominent Israeli artists like Shalom Hanoch and Arik Einstein.
Armoni also addressed questions about the father of her children, stating that her children know who he is and that he chose not to be involved in their lives, which is what matters most. She referenced her daughter Ella's award-winning documentary, "Girl, Woman, or Something Else," which touches upon this aspect of their family history. Her career peak, she believes, was her self-titled album, written by Shalom Hanoch, though a prior international project with a British producer ultimately failed due to the producer's financial ruin.
Looking ahead, Armoni wishes for health and immense success, aiming to recover fully and achieve phenomenal success, still anticipating a major breakthrough.
