Israel Boosts Military Readiness Amid Fears of Surprise Iranian Attack

The Israeli military (IDF) is enhancing its preparedness for a potential surprise attack from Iran, anticipating that Tehran might strike with little advance warning. The IDF's operational directorate is reportedly in a state of "maximum readiness" for various threats, with recent technological and operational upgrades aimed at bolstering homeland defense, particularly following Iranian attacks on U.S. facilities in Jordan. Major General Yitzik Cohen has instructed staff units to prepare for scenarios where Iran attempts simultaneous or sequential attacks.

The IDF is planning for two primary contingencies: an Israeli response acting alone, or a joint operation with the United States. Acting independently would require Israel to fully utilize its own detection, interception, and retaliatory capabilities. A joint operation with the U.S. would significantly enhance missile defense and response options.

While the IDF is preparing for such scenarios, Israeli intelligence has not confirmed that an attack is imminent. The focus is on readiness for unexpected developments, as a swift Iranian strike would leave minimal time for decision-making. Operational plans, covering both defense and potential offense, are being updated every few days by the Chief of Staff, while military intelligence, led by Major General Shlomi Binder, is continuously assessing threat detection mechanisms from Iran.

Technological improvements have been made in recent months to enhance rear-area protection, though details remain classified. Security officials anticipate the IDF may adopt one of two alert statuses: one with a short warning period before an attack, and another with more time for preparation. The latter allows for troop dispersal, bolstering air defenses, and coordinating with allies, which is crucial given Iran's arsenal of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones.

Daily, round-the-clock coordination with the U.S. military continues at a high level. This dual preparation ensures Israel can defend itself independently while maintaining the capacity for rapid joint action with the U.S., especially after Iran's demonstrated willingness to target American assets in the region.
