The Israeli military is on the highest level of alert, preparing for a potential surprise attack from Iran, a senior defense official confirmed Wednesday. The Operations Directorate, led by Major General Itzik Cohen, has long been prepared for various scenarios from all fronts, with technological upgrades enhancing the defense of the Israeli home front in recent months.

This heightened readiness comes amid Iranian attacks on U.S. military bases in Jordan. The head of the Operations Directorate has instructed military bodies to prepare for a surprise scenario where Iran might attempt to attack Israel, requiring the IDF to respond independently or in coordination with the United States.

IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi regularly refines operational plans for both defense and offense, approving necessary improvements. This process is supported by ongoing decision-making within Military Intelligence, headed by Major General Shlomi Binder, which is refining early warning mechanisms against attacks from the Iranian theater.

Defense officials anticipate two main alert timelines for a potential attack: a short-term timeline and a longer one that would allow for better preparation. The IDF emphasized that coordination with the U.S. military remains at the highest level and is conducted around the clock daily.
