Israel Boosts Military Readiness Amid Fears of Iranian Surprise Attack

Israel's defense establishment is on high alert and preparing for the possibility of a surprise attack from Iran, according to a senior defense official speaking to "Walla." The Operations Directorate, led by Major General Itzik Cohen, has been maintaining a high state of readiness for various scenarios across all fronts for an extended period. In recent months, technological upgrades have been implemented to bolster Israel's home front defense systems.

This heightened preparedness comes in the wake of recent Iranian attacks on U.S. military bases in Jordan. Following these developments, the head of the Operations Directorate has instructed relevant military bodies to prepare for a scenario where Iran might attempt a surprise assault on Israel. In such an event, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) may need to respond independently or in coordination with the United States.

The IDF's Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, is reportedly reviewing operational plans for both defense and offense on a regular basis, approving necessary changes and improvements based on evolving circumstances. Concurrently, Military Intelligence, under Major General Shlomi Binder, is continuously updating early warning systems designed to detect potential threats originating from Iran.

Defense sources indicate that in the event of escalation, two primary alert timelines, a short and a long one, are expected to be implemented to ensure optimal readiness. The IDF emphasized that coordination with the U.S. military is ongoing at a high level and is conducted continuously around the clock.
